The film's box office success led to a long series of sequels, a crossover with Freddy Krueger and a series reboot released.on February 13, 2009

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
8 PM

Intro by HEATHER LANGENKAMP

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 American horror film directed and written by Wes Craven. Set in the fictional Midwestern town of Springwood, Ohio, the plot revolves around several teenagers being terrorized in their nightmares by the ghost of a serial child murderer named Freddy Krueger. The film also features Johnny Depp in his feature film debut. Both critics and Craven have mentioned that the film owes some of its success to John Carpenter's Halloween (1978).
Sequels to the original would continue to blur the distinction between dream and reality before finally challenging the line between art and reality by showing Heather Langenkamp, playing a fictionalized version of herself, haunted by the villain of a series of films she has starred in. Critics praised the film's ability to rupture "the boundaries between the imaginary and real", toying with audience perceptions.

THE EVIL DEAD
  10 PM

With live commentary by "The Ladies of The Evil Dead"

The Evil Dead is a 1981 American cult classic horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi, starring Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss and Betsy Baker. The film tells the story of five college students vacationing in an isolated cabin in the woods. Their vacation turns into a nightmare when they find an audiotape that is the key to unlocking evil spirits.
The film was extremely controversial for its graphic terror, violence and gore, being initially turned down by almost all U.S. film distributors until a European company finally bought it in the Cannes Film Festival marketplace. It was finally released into theaters on October 15, 1981. Although its budget was just $375,000, the film was a moderate success at the box office, grossing a total of $2,400,000 in the U.S. upon its initial release. Despite getting mixed reviews by critics at the time, it is now widely accepted as a classic of the horror genre and has a dedicated worldwide cult following. The film also spawned two sequels entitled: Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

FRIDAY THE 13TH 3D
  MIDNIGHT

Friday the 13th Part III is the third film in the Friday the 13th series. The 1982 movie was the first film in the series to feature Jason Voorhees wearing a hockey mask that has become synonymous with the character and his image. The film was released theatrically in 3-D. Much like its sequel Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, this film was intended to end the series. Unlike its sequel and the later film, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, this film did not include a moniker in its title to indicate as such. An alternate ending depicted Jason decapitating Chris in a dream sequence (as opposed to the dream sequence in the finished film featuring Mrs. Voorhees). It is featured in the 1982 novel by Michael Avallone, which was based on the original shooting script. Some photos of the scene also appear in Peter Bracke's 2005 book, Crystal Lake Memories.
